A renowned record label that specialises in dance music has decided to name a journalist as the culprit who "leaked" two of their unreleased studio albums onto the world wide web.

Ninjatune made the unusual and unprecedented step of "naming and shaming" the journalist after tracing back the copies of the respective albums to the Backspin magazine journalist Benjamin Jager.

The studio albums in question were from the artists Toddla T's Watch Me Dance and Thundercat's The Age of the Apocalypse.

One of the reasons that music leaks are so common online is because labels tend to make albums available to the media ahead of official release and with digital media so easily duplicated, they are easily disseminated through file-sharing websites.

Writing on its official website, the dance label said that it had learnt with "considerable disappointment" that two of their albums had been leaked by Mr Jager.

It added: "The availability of these records online for free has meant a rush release of the digital version of Toddla's record, which, after the years of work put in, will seriously affect the ability to make any kind of financial return from commercial release."

Ninjatune went on to say that it was damaging the ability for young, up-and-coming musicians to make a decent living from their creative output by publishing them online before they're commercially available.

It is unknown whether Mr Jager will face any legal action.
