Nick Drake 'had orchestral approach to acoustic guitar'
Singer-songwriter Nick Drake had an "orchestral approach" to his acoustic guitar playing, it has been suggested.
According to Gibson.com columnist Peter Hodgson, Drake employed a wide-ranging variety of capo placements and unorthodox open tunings when playing the instrument.
The writer suggested that the key to understanding his playing talents is by listening to the picking patterns in Drake's songs.
"He was a master of striking each string at a different volume, sometimes as part of a cascading arpeggio and sometimes within a single strike," said Mr Hodgson, who went on to praise the complexity and expressiveness of the musician's playing.
Although the top 20 has yet to be revealed, the likes of Bob Dylan, Buddy Miller, Neil Young and Eric Clapton have already featured in the list so far.
