New music instrument that recycles sound on show in the Cotswolds
An innovative new music instrument that is pushing the boundaries of how sound is produced is now on show at the Gateway Centre in the Cotswolds.
The Organ of Corti, which sounds like something out of a Dan Brown novel, is a sculptural organ composed of transparent tubes.
It produces music in a novel way. The organ "recycles" sounds from the natural – and manmade – world, making it distinct in that it doesn't need to be played.
This is made possible by the use of crystals, which are designed in such a way as to block out or accentuate certain frequencies.
The music instrument has gone down such a storm that it picked up the PRS New Music Award last year.
Currently on a tour of the UK, the instrument is altered to respond to the unique sounds that are found in the sites, creating a bespoke experience.
Lesley Greene, arts consultant at the Cotswold Water Park Trust, told the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard: "The trust is thrilled to be included in the national tour of this highly unusual sculpture award.
"We have had a strong relationship with Liminal since they collaborated on the Cotswold Water Park Masterplan and this project contributes to the development of ideas such as the Tranquillity Machine that the Water Park inspired".
