New music instrument gets people shaking their hips
Quirky music instruments have got that little bit wackier with the invention of the HipDisk.
A cross between a tutu and a hoop you swing by rocking your hips, the HipDisk is made up of two-discs that emit sounds when they touch.
To make this happen, the music instrument, which is worn above the waist and around the abdomen, is brought to life through the twisting, bending, stretching and turning of the body.
When the two points meet, monophonic tunes or melodies are created.
Created by Danielle Wilde, the instrument was designed to get people moving while making music.
Though not technically a fitness object, the HipDisk does require a certain level of fitness as to achieve a decent range of musical sounds, the user must move around in such a way as to exert a lot of energy.
Naturally, the visual effect is humorous to say the least.
Ms Wilde told Gizmag: "The first time I presented the HipDisk I was shown a short piece of video footage of me performing and I found it shocking.
"I had truly had no idea of how I behaved physically and how unconventionally unconstrained I appeared to be when wearing the device."
