Coldplay have drawn on an unlikely source of inspiration for their next album - the White Rose movement of students who rebelled against the Nazi Party in Germany during the 1940s.
"It's about being free to express yourself among negative surroundings," he said. "Being able to speak out or follow your passion, even if everybody seems against it."
Martin added the band are fired up to make their best work as they are approaching middle age and feel they are reaching their peak. No official release date has been decided yet for the new record, but earlier this week Coldplay's first live dates for 2011 were confirmed. The group are to perform at the Rock am Ring and Rock in Park festivals in Germany during June.
