Never too old for music camp
Fur Peace Ranch, based in the foothills of the Midwestern state of Ohio, is a camp that provides guests with a comfortable but intense musical experience, amidst an idyllic landscape.
It's open to musicians of all levels and all instrument types – from percussion instruments to mandolins to ukuleles. However, guitars are its speciality.
Marjorie Thompson, an instructor at Fur Peace, told Bloomberg: "These guys take music seriously. You leave your obligations at home and immerse yourself."
The ranch experience, with its lush cabins, helps to create a community mood. There's even a designated campfire circle through woodland to create an authentic old school vibe.
It's so good that Bob Doherty, vice president of broadcast operations at NBC, has visited the camp 32 times.
Speaking to the news provider, the 56-year-old said: "They're like family now -- the students, the instructors, the staff. I learn something new every time I go."
The project is the brainchild of Jorma and Vanessa Kaukonen , who came up with the idea in 1989.
