Neil Young: The sound of music today is bad
Young, 66, known for skills on the guitar, told MTV that he found it hard to listen to the music coming out of the stereo in the 21st century, especially with regards to its quality.
"I don't like it. It just makes me angry," he said.
"Not the quality of the music, but we're in the 21st century and we have the worst sound that we've ever had. It's worse than a 78 [rpm record]. Where are our geniuses? What happened?"
He goes on to explain that MP3 tracks feature only five per cent of original data from an original master file, suggesting that the file which is consumed is a substandard product.
"If you're an artist and you created something and you knew the master was 100 per cent great, but the consumer got 5 per cent, would you be feeling good?" he told the music news provider.
Young has had a prolific music career, producing some 33 studio albums. His last record was Le Noise, which came out in 2010.
