Namm calls on everyone to play on Music Monday
Posted on 8 Apr 2009 16:31 to category : Music News
The National Association of Music Merchants (Namm) is calling for people around the world to pick up a musical instrument and play on this year's Music Monday (May 4th).
For the second year in a row, the organiser of the popular Namm trade shows is backing the Coalition for Music Education's annual event, which aims to showcase the power of music.
Announcing its support for the day this week, Namm said its research illustrates that music is beneficial for people of all ages.
"Children who play music do better in school, people [over the age of 45] who make music can use the activity to reduce stress and seniors who play often use it as a social outlet," the organisation stated.
It quoted figures showing that 82 per cent of people who have never played a musical instrument before would like to be able to do so.
The next Namm show, Summer Namm '09, will take place in Nashville in July.
