NME hails guitar bands of the 2000s
Posted on 18 Nov 2009 19:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
Electric guitar-based rock music has dominated a new list of the greatest albums of the last ten years.
NME asked a panel of music industry professionals including songwriters, musicians and record label executives to name the best albums to have been released in the current decade.
Is This It by The Strokes was ranked at the top of the list, ahead of Up The Bracket by The Libertines.
Guitar bands such as Primal Scream, Arctic Monkeys and Radiohead also figured prominently in the list, along with acts including The White Stripes, Queens of the Stone Age and Blur.
Julian Casablancas, vocalist in The Strokes, welcomed the news, saying: "It's totally crazy.
"I thought it was great when I heard."
However, he admitted that it is hard to say whether The Strokes' high ranking means the last decade has been a good or bad period for music.
Is This It spawned three hit singles for the band in the UK - Hard to Explain, Last Nite and Someday.
