NAMM 2014: PJ Harvey and Paul Epworth Test New Sontronics Mic
The prototype for the new mystery model was tested by producer Paul Epworth and musician PJ Harvey, as well as the engineers at Abbey Road Studios. With further details about the new mic to be announced soon, Founder Trevor Coley has said "both Paul and Polly fell in love with their prototypes, so much that we had to negotiate heavily to get the models back in order to get the mic into final production!"
The Sontronics story began in 2004, when Trevor started making stylish, professional-quality microphones that were affordable.
Launched in 2005, the entire range was made up of small studio microphones. Today, the range includes valve and ribbon microphones, drum and guitar mics and more, all designed with vintage-styling in Britain.
Developed under strict lab conditions, the characteristics of all Sontronics mics and accessories are carefully tested, measured and controlled.
The new mic will be added to an already incredible line-up of Sontronics mics. If you've never used a Sontronics mic before, we've picked three we think you'll love.
The Halo is an excellent dynamic mic for guitar amps and cabs, developed from the best-selling Sontronics STC-80. The capsule is spring-mounted in a circular frame to protect it from rumbles.
The Saturn multi-pattern condenser microphone is inspired by the classic vocal mics of the '40s and '50s in design, but produces high-grade audio, flexible performance and detailed results. Use it on vocals, guitars, orchestral, piano, anything goes!
The STC-80 dynamic mic delivers results in live and recording situations that you wouldn't expect looking at the price tag, setting a new industry standard for handheld mics. The STC-80 is road-ready, wih a rugged construction and anti-slip body grooves.
