NAMM 2014: Gretsch Launches 2014 Roots Collection
The new Roots Collection is a history lesson of an era just before rock'n'roll changed everything. New acoustic guitars comprise of the classic 1950s Gretsch New Yorker archtop guitar and the Jim Dandy Flat Top in new semi-gloss Coral Sunburst finish.
The New Yorker's distinctive design includes oversized f-holes, a solid spruce arched top and back, a vintage-style 'V'-shaped neck and compensated rosewood bridge with trapeze tailpiece.
Four Gretsch resonator models have also been announced, the Bobtail Steel Electro-Acoustics with either square or round neck and the Honey Dipper Special, also with square or round neck.
The Bobtail features a steel body with semi-gloss clear top finish, Gretsch Ampli-Sonic Spider resonator cone and bridge and a Fishman Nashville Resophonic pickup. The eye-catching weathered Delta Blue finish on the Honey Dipper's bell brass body is complemented by its rosewood fingerboard, and there's an Ampli-Sonic Biscuit resonator cone and bridge present.
Designed for playing traditional music, the Laydie Belle Irish Tenor Banjo is a short scale banjo with Whyte-Laydie tone ring, 17-fret rosewood fingerboard and 11" Remo High Crown Renaissance head, finished in maple gloss.
The Dixie Special is the middle child in the Dixie open-back banjo family, with features usually reserved for more expensive instruments. These include the rolled brass tone ring and 24 tension brackets, 11" Remo Renaissance head and a Vega-style armrest.
The Park Avenue Mandolin has a stunning body with oval soundhole, engraved tailpiece, arched top and back and a semi-glodd antique Vintage Sunburst finish. This f-style mandolin features a Fishman M-300 Nashville Mandolin pickup with piezo-ceramic pickup element embedded in the bridge base.
New Gretsch ukulele models include the G9126-ACE Acoustic-Cutaway-Electric Guitar-Ukulele, offering beautiful ukulele tones to guitar players everywhere. A 17 inch scale and convenient cutaway make it easy to play, and the six strings are tuned at standard guitar intervals , great for extended-range uke arrangements.
Four 4-string ukes complete the Roots Collection lineup for 2014. A solid Koa top model is available in both a Tenor and Concert model, both with Grover 9NB geared tuning machines, a one-piece mahogany neck, 19-fret rosewood fingerboard and an open pore semi-gloss finish.
The mahogany-topped Concert and Soprano Long-Necks both have a rosewood fingerboard and bridge. The electro-acoustic Concert model provides room for two more inches of string length and two more frets for more room in the upper registers.
