NAMM 2014: Fender Artist Series 2014 Releases
Dark and menacing, the Jim Root Jazzmaster from the Slipknot and Stone Sour guitarist has been distinctively minimalised, so much so that only fearsome EMG 60 and 81 humbucking neck and bridge pickups, a three-way switch, volume knob and hard-tail Stratocaster bridge remain.
The Troy Van Leeuwen Jazzmaster is also darkly alluring, much like the sound he wrings from it. Providing some of the most textured guitar work of recent decades for bands like A Perfect Circle, Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal, the Van Leeuwen Jazzmaster features dual tone circuits using a two-way toggle switch on the upper horn rather than a slider, and combines a brass-saddle Mustang bridge combined with a Jazzmaster tailpiece.
The Kurt Cobain Jaguar NOS has been reproduced by the Fender craftsmen down to the last unusual details in place when Kurt first acquired the guitar in 1991. Dual humbucking pickups and unique electronics and controls feature, including a DP100 Super Distortion bridge pickup and DiMarzio humbucking DP103 PAF 36th Anniversary neck pickup. Also available is the Left-Handed Kurt Cobain Jaguar NOS.
From Squier, the Eva Gardner Precision Bass is new for 2014. Based on the specs of the bassist who's played with Pink and The Mars Volta, The Eva Gardner features clipper ship tattoo detail, basswood body and Hi-Mass bridge.
