NAMM 2014: Demand for DJ Gear Rises
Over 300 brands will be showcasing DJ-related products this year at NAMM. Towards the end of 2013, we saw some big releases at BPM, especially where devices that partner with iOS are concerned.
"I think this year more brands are going to try and make an impact with iOS, given Traktor's success on the platform", says our Roland expert and resident DJ, Mike. "There may be more companies trying to bring together the digital and analogue DJ world like Native Instruments did with the Z2 mixer."
Demand for controllers has doubled since 2010. Last year, we saw the release of the Numark Orbit, a wireless, handheld controller that looked much like game controller and this year, although not DJ-specific, the IK Multimedia iRing, offering motion control in Z-space, opening up the possibilities for different forms of control.
The growth in recent years has been credited to digital media being easier to get hold of for DJs to experiment with, the popularity of EDM as it reaches more mainstream audiences thanks to artists like Skrillex, Daft Punk and Avicii, and the advancements in portable devices.
