The Moog Minitaur Analog Bass Synthesizer has been confirmed for release at NAMM 2012. The world's most recognised synth manufacturer, Moog, has set tongues wagging over the last few days with the leak of several images and details of an all new synth - now confirmed as the Moog Minitaur. With a retail of £499), the Minitaur is a monophonic, analog synth with full MIDI/USB control and CV. Not only is it the smallest piece of Moog hardware ever measuring 8.5" x 5.25" and weighing just 3 lb , but it is also the most affordable. Based on the revered Taurus synth, the Minitaur features classic Moog knob per function design, but also has new appointments such as an external audio input. The 100% analog audio path also uses 2 Taurus VCOs and has a variable glide amount. Choose from a Sawtooth waveform taken from the original Taurus, and a Square waveform over both VCOs. There are 2 mixer VCAs, and 1 VCF with a Moog/Taurus style Ladder Filter with VC Resonance. Also on board are two Minimoog-esque ADSR Envelope generators with Decay and Release and 1 MIDI syncable triangle wave LFO for modulatin VCF/VCOs. The Minitaur has had input from the likes of Geddy Lee (Rush), Derrick May and Holy F*** making it one of the most well respected synths around even before it's came out. Chief Engineer of Moog Music, Cyril Lance, stated "we're really excited to be able to offer this in such a compact package that is both immediately playable as an extremely versatile analog synth and also integrates seamlessly into the world of MIDI and USB control environments."
