Musical instruments donated to African school
A class of children from the north-east of England have decided to donate musical instruments and educational equipment to a school in Mali.
Bebside Middle School, in Blyth, Northumberland, is to be merged with a nearby high school following the summer holidays and the equipment that will no longer be used by children there has now been passed on to the African Workshop facility in Bamako.
Along with the musical instruments, desks, chairs and textbooks have been donated, reports the Press Association.
Ben Holt, founder of the African Workshop, said: "It will fully equip our community centre - where we run a pre-school, plus art and music classes - and it will allow us to help the local schools where we send promising children."
Last month, the Daily Mail reported that scientists from the University of Zurich have discovered that playing a musical instrument can boost a person's IQ by as much as seven points.
