Musical garden shed wins award

A garden shed filled with music instruments now gardening tools has gained national recognition.
Great deals on musical instruments

A garden shed which is used for playing music instruments rather than storing gardening tools has been named Shed of the Year.

The Somerset-based shed earned praise from the judging panel thanks to its unusual use.

While the shed is too small to hold fans, it has hosted a number of acts from across the globe, including, perhaps most impressively, a 26-piece gospel choir.

Its owner Jon Earl records the shows and puts the videos on video-sharing site YouTube for people to enjoy.

Commenting on his shed's musical success, Mr Earl said: "We've had over a 150 acts play in here [and] 350,000 views from people all over the world."

He added that he will put the £1,000 prize pot to good use by reinvesting it in his shed and tackle a woodworm issue.

One of the competition's judges, homes guru Sarah Beeny, described the shed as being full of interesting things.

Other sheds up for the accolade included sheds decked out like bars and bedrooms, as well as traditional tool sheds, summer houses and an ark-shaped shed.

However, none were quite as famous as Earl's music-filled shed.
