Music teacher uses grant to buy guitars and drum set
A music teacher has spent a grant worth $4,140 (£2,538) on new guitars, amps and drums, amongst other pieces of equipment.
Michelle Schmitt from St Croix Elementary and Middle School in the US was awarded the fund as part of a music education grant, New Richmond News reports.
Ms Schmitt uses the items to teach youngsters about all kinds of music and influences, covering a vast array of genres.
They can now play the 1950s hit Rock Around the Clock, which the teacher selected for its simple combination of three guitar chords.
Students have been particularly interested to use the new equipment because they consider the guitars and other instruments as "cool", Ms Schmitt adds.
Other students with an interest in music are youngsters at Mexborough School in Doncaster, who were recently treated to a performance by Saxon electric guitar player Graham Oliver, the Sheffield Star reported.
