Muse wants free-dom

Muse will be ''disappointed'' if their music is taken off free streaming internet sites and have accused the music industry of ''clutching at straws'' to save revenue.
Great deals on musical instruments

Muse will be "disappointed" if their music is taken off website Spotify.

The band are unhappy with their record company Warner Music's proposal to stop licensing to free advertising-funded music streaming websites because they fear it will reduce their fan base.

Bassist Chris Wolstenholme said: "It's like taking your song off the radio, isn't it? You're instantly taking your song away from a group of potential listeners."

Chris insists the decision to remove free access to music is rarely the choice of the artists and has accused industry bosses of "clutching at straws" to try and boost their revenue.

He added to BBC Newsbeat: "The corporations are setting the rules on these things because they're clutching at straws.

"They've lost so much money on record sales because of the internet.

"I do sometimes feel that this whole restriction that's been set on how your music can get out there these days that doesn't ever really come from the bands. It's coming from the corporations behind everything.

"As far as bands are concerned you just want people to hear your music whichever way they can."

Chris' comments come after Warmer Music CEO Edgar Bronfman blasted streaming services as "not positive" for the future of the music industry.

He said: "Free streaming services are clearly not positive for the industry and as far as Warner Music is concerned songs will not be licensed."
