Muse named Best British Band at NME Awards
Electric guitar player Matt Bellamy has expressed his delight after Muse were named as the Best British Band at last night's NME Awards.
The Devon-based group beat tough competition on the shortlist to claim the award ahead of the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Kasabian and Oasis.
"That's a genuine surprise," said Bellamy as the band collected the award from Lily Allen and electric guitar star Slash. "It's very humbling to win that award against the Monkeys [and] Kasabian.
"[It's] great to receive it from a couple of music legends."
Other winners at the ceremony included Jamie T as Best Solo Artist and Paul Weller who took the Godlike Genius award.
Kasabian won the Best Album prize, while The Specials took home the Outstanding Contribution to Music Award.
Rage Against the Machine were named as Heroes of the Year after taking the Christmas number one away from the X-Factor, while Glastonbury picked up the Best Festival gong.Posted on 25 Feb 2010 11:28 to category : Band / Celebrity News
