Multiple instruments 'help songwriting'

Owning several musical instruments can help with writing songs, according to legendary guitarist JJ Cale.

br /> In an interview with Russell Hall of Gibson, the musician claimed that all instruments have an effect on the composition process and as such, a song written on an acoustic guitar will likely be different from one written on electric guitar.

"The same is true of writing on piano, or bass, or any other instrument," he remarked. "The instrument you play influences the kind of music you're making."

Cale made his comments in response to a question about what his 'go-to' instruments are.

He stated that he does not really stick to a particular brand of guitar, although he does like to modify instruments with new frets and pickups as "kind of a hobby".

Cale is perhaps most famous for writing Eric Clapton's hit After Midnight. Clapton is most closely associated with Fender, which has produced a Stratocaster bearing his name.
