Motown star used Gibson Firebird for all his recording sessions
Posted on 24 Apr 2010 09:00 to category : Music News

Motown star Dennis Coffey, a guitarist for the Funk Brothers, has explained his history of using Gibsoninstruments.
Speaking to the musical instrument manufacturer's website, Coffey said he first picked up a Gibson Firebird guitar after seeing fellow band member Eddis Willis playing one.
He explained that he went on to use the Firebird for all his recording sessions during his Motown era.
"For backbeats and tight sounds, you need a solidbody guitar," he said.
"I saw Eddie playing his Firebird, and when I tried it, that's what I wanted to play."
Coffey added that he has a range of other Gibsonguitars at his disposal, including a 335, two 345s and a Byrdland.
Other famous artists to have used a Gibson Firebird guitar at some point in their career include Eric Clapton, Sir Paul McCartney and Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones.
Guitarists including Warren Haynes and Roxy Music star Phil Manzanera have also been known to use the instrument.
