The Top 10 musical instruments picked up by beginners has been revealed by a musical education establishment.

The Piano has been revealed as the most popular instrument for beginners in 2013, according to research done by a musical education specialist. The Piano also came out in 1st place for 2012.

The research analysed over 2000 hours of teaching to compile a list of the most popular instruments. Singing came in 2nd, with vocal coaching accounting for 15 percent of all lessons. It's taken over from guitar, which was in 2nd place in 2012.

Drums, Flute and Violin have remained in the same positions, taking 4th, 5th and 6th place respectively. See the full top 10 below.

Many digital pianos now include tutorial features, making it easy to learn songs and easily practice, even without the presence of a teacher.

There are even apps available to make your journey into being an accomplished pianist easier from brands such as Yamaha and Casio. Roland even integrate iPads into some of their HP digital pianos, like the HP504.
