Miles Kane: Guitar music is underrepresented in charts
The former Rascals and Last of the Shadow Puppets musician told the Yorkshire Evening Post that guitar-based bands found it particularly tough to break into the higher echelons of the charts.
Kane has just released his first solo studio album entitled the Colour of the Trap, which he has co-written with Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys Fame.
"When you look at the charts, it’s ridiculous. I want the day when guitar music, what I do and loads of bands, you’re fighting in the top ten singles, you know what I mean.
"To break the singles chart, it’s a tough thing these days. It’s just because people are brainwashed, it needs to be put back in the public eye. I think it’s coming round but who knows."
He went on to say manufactured artists, many of whom dominate the charts, were part and parcel of today's music scene and that he had no problem with people who liked that kind of music.
In an interview with the Independent recently he said he was looking to prove the point that he is more than just Turner's best mate: "I'm not soft, I know some people think that."
