Mike Skinner sets good Example
Posted on 17 Jun 2010 16:30 to category : Music News

Rapper Example is inspired by Mike Skinner.
The 'Won't Go Quietly' star- whose real name is Elliot John Gleave - once toured with The Streets star and says he learned a lot from his mentor.
He said in an interview with ilikemusic.com: "In recent years two of the people that I've found most inspiring are Dizzee Rascal, just for his pure energy and being able to entertain crowds of hundreds and thousands with just a mic and decks, and Mike Skinner.
"Working with The Streets and watching him perform you learn a lot. Me and him are quite different in the way we perform and use the stage. I'm very much centre of attention, but Mike always has another guy on stage MCing with him. His stage craft is very impressive."
The rapper recently released his album `Kickstarts' and though he collaborated with a number of artists - including Calvin Harris, MJ Cole, Sub Focus and Chase & Status - Example insists it is very much his own record.
He said: "This album has very much come from me. The melodies are written by me, and I sing on almost every track, I rap on every track, and all the stories are from personal experience. Someone called it dysfunctional electro pop, and I think that's the best way to describe it because even though the production and the lyrics are very catchy and accessible, there's nothing generic about any of it."
