Mick Jagger unveils new super group
Mick Jagger is in one of the most famous and successful rock bands of music history, but that's not enough for the star who recently told the world that he has formed a new "super group".
The Rolling Stones singer-songwriter, who also has a penchant for the harmonica, revealed the name of his new band as Super Heavy, a fitting description for a group that is comprised of Dave Stewart, Damien Marley, Joss Stone and the Indian composer A.R. Rahman, reported Rolling Stone magazine.
For the last 18 months, the band have been quietly working away in the studio and plan on releasing their debut album later this year in the autumn.
Speaking to the magazine, he said: "It's different from anything else I've ever been involved in. The music is very wide-ranging – from reggae to ballads to Indian songs in Urdu."
It all came about after Jagger and Stewart, best known for his work with the Eurythmics, talked about wanting to experiment with fusing a range of styles. After a few calls they all found themselves at a studio in Los Angeles jamming away.
It'll be a busy time for Mick Jagger if Keith Richards' recent announcement is anything to go by. The electric guitar player revealed that The Rolling Stones were thinking about a celebration next year of the 50th anniversary of their first ever gig.
