Metronome 'a must-have' for beginner guitarists
People who are just starting to learn how to play the electric guitar have been advised to invest in a metronome.
Speaking to the Gibson website, guitar teacher Dave Jones said the piece of musical equipment is a must-have for anyone who is getting going with the instrument.
"A metronome and tuner are of great importance," he explained.
"Playing an in-tune instrument will help the developing ear of the beginner and a metronome will help them to start to get into the circular motion of music."
He added a learner's electric guitar should be set up so that it is not too heavy to hold, recommending lighter string gauges for young players.
As a fledging musician grows in confidence, they can be replaced with medium gauge strings to help strengthen the hands, the expert advised.
Last month, Gibson website columnist Peter Hodgson advised electric guitar players to clean their instruments regularly, taking care to select the correct cleaning solution for the guitar's particular finish.
