Metallica plot landmark tour
Posted on 18th Mar 2010 16:30 to category Music News
Metallica are plotting a new tour to rival Pink Floyd's 'The Wall'.
The 'Enter Sandman' rockers are set to play 10 huge shows with a musical undertaking said to be huge enough to rival the 1980 to 1981 conceptual tour by the psychedelic band, which saw them build a wall in front of the audience then knock it down at the show's climax.
The group's manager, Peter Mensch, said: "Let's just say that next year you will see a Metallica tour that will blow your mind.
"They will only play in 10 cities but it will be a huge undertaking. It will be Metallica's equivalent of 'The Wall'."
He also joked about his role with the group being to come up with grand concepts such as the proposals for next year's tour in order to keep their stage show fresh.
He added: "I'm just shooting off dumb ideas and - by the way, between you and me - some of it is recycling stuff that people did 25 years ago but no one's smart enough to know that we recycled it.
"My job includes saying something like, 'I have this idea for us to play an equivalent of 'The Wall'. So here's some ideas so we can get the professionals in so they can tell me if I'm crazy or not.'"
Metallica are presently playing on their 'Death Magnetic' tour in South America, which recently led to trouble in Bogata, Columbia when 160 people were arrested after ticketless fans stormed the venue.
