Matt Cardle 'started playing guitar at age 11'
X Factor winner Matt Cardle is set to make millions in the next few years, after his life in music began at the age of 11 when he began to play the guitar.
His use of a musical instrument helped to distinguish him from the other contestants on the reality show and he regularly performed with his guitar over the course of the series.
Cardle has had a long road to fame, spending more than a decade trying to make it in the music industry prior to auditioning for the X Factor, reports the Daily Telegraph.
After winning the show, he is now expected to earn around £2 million from record sales, £1 million from live performances and £1.5 million from various advertising deals.
He may also be able to benefit from several modelling contracts, with commentators estimating he could make up to £500,000 from participating in this line of work.
The guitar player is expected to make it to number one in the singles chart next week with When We Collide, a cover of Biffy Clyro song Many of Horror.
He is the hot 2/7 favourite with bookmaker William Hill to clinch the Christmas top spot.
