Mark Ronson has passionate preference
Posted on 5 Aug 2010 16:30 to category : Music News

Mark Ronson would rather people wanted to "stab" him rather than have no opinion about his music.
The producer - who experienced a backlash when he released 'Stop Me', a reworked version of The Smiths' track 'Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before' - doesn't enjoy being criticised but thinks people should be passionate about the artists they like.
He said: "People should be more precious about music than ever. I'd much rather everyone was precious and have Smiths fans picket outside my door than have no one care.
"If someone does a version of 'Stop Me...' that you don't like, it makes you want to send a message to their MySpace and tell them that you're going to stab them. Although it might not be the best thing in the world to be on the receiving end.
"I love that people care enough to do that. When people don't care, that's when the bottom will just fall out and there'll just be s**t music because no one will say anything about it."
The 'Boom Bang Bang' hitmaker is adamant he is nothing like the way he is perceived.
Although he thinks personal attacks against him are unfair, Ronson can understand why people criticised his last LP 'Version' - which was an album of covers of his favourite songs featuring a host of guest vocalists, including Lily Allen and Robbie Williams.
He added to NME magazine: "I don't know about the persona but I know how the music was received. You can't control public opinion. You just have to be the person you'd like to portray. Not that many people actually know me."
