Mark Knopfler's Fender Stratocaster guitar up for auction
Fans have until Sunday evening to bid for the guitar, which is being auctioned off in aid of the Pallant House gallery in Chichester.
The MK Fender Stratocaster was first played last Saturday when Knopfler used it for a preview gig at the gallery.
Bidding has currently reached £3,200 for the item.
Knopfler will be hoping to match the amount raised by rock stars Muse, who recently auctioned off a specially made guitar signed by the band for over £8,000.
The electric guitar was turned into a mosaic piece that replicates the cover of their new album.
The money was donated to the Helen Foundation, a local arts charity set up in memory of Helen Kirk, a friend of the band who was killed in a car crash in 2005.
Helen's mother Annie Kirk, who set up the Helen Foundation with her husband Roger, told the Herald Express: "We are amazed with the winning bid.
"When bidding closed we got the champagne out."Posted on 19 Sep 2009 16:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
