Marina and the Diamonds choose Moog for World Tour
Keyboardist for Marina and the Diamonds, John Shone, has chosen the Moog Little Phatty synthesizer for the band's current world-wide tour.
Shone chose the Little Phatty for its prevailing lead and solo sounds, which Moog synthesizers are famous for.
With only two keyboard players, a bass guitar player and a drummer, Shone realised that the Little Phatty was an ideal for replacing lead and solo sounds that are often played on the electric guitar.
"I needed something that would give me really great lead sounds for the solos we do, and some really nice things that sit lower down to cover those guitar parts" said Shone.
Originally, Shone's live rig was a fairly basic virtual analogue setup. When he began playing in Marina and the Diamonds, he sought after an analog sound that would really cut-through the mix.
"...the one thing I'll say about the Moog is since I've been using it, it's the one thing that really cuts through out of all the boards, the one thing that when we want to take it up a notch, does" said Shone.
Shone, by his own admission, wasn't much of a synth player as he was a keyboardist. However, he found something in the Little Phatty that kept him coming back to the Moog synthesizer for its wide scope of sounds.
Marina and the Diamonds are currently on tour throughout Europe but are set to play the US and Australia very soon.Posted on 1 Dec 2010 10:30 to category : Band / Celebrity News
