Manic Street Preachers perform intimate gig

Manic Street Preachers performed to just 300 people last night (05.08.10).
The Welsh trio launched their forthcoming album 'Postcards from a Young Man' with the intimate show at Hammersmith Working Men's Club in west London, previewing new material and playing fan favourites in a mistake-riddled set that saw a number of false starts and mistimed notes.
Introducing 'Everything Must Go', frontman James Dean Bradfield said: "Welcome to the fk-up Preachers. Welcome to our pork scratching evening tonight."
Later, after another error, bassist Nicky Wire quipped: "Remember when they said we could be the Welsh U2? This is why we never were."
The 15-track set saw new songs '(It's Not War) Just The End Of Love', 'The Descent (Pages 1 & 2)', 'Postcards From A Young Man' and 'Some Kind Of Nothingness' interspersed with classics including 'Motorcycle Emptiness', 'If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next', 'Faster' and 'You Love Us'.
The group - who were backed by a string quartet - also began their rendition of 'Motown Junk' with a chorus and verse from The Jam song 'Town Called Malice'.
Finishing their set with a rousing version of 'A Design For Life', James again apologised for the mistakes in the set.
He said: "This is a personal apology from me for all the fk-ups."
