Making music instruments from clay flowerpots
A creative musician is leading the charge on making music instruments from a variety of everyday objects she comes across.
Terry Dame not only fashions music instruments out of objects like clay flowerpots, garbage cans, kitchenware and even circular saw blades, but creates genuine, properly tuned instruments that create fantastic sounds.
Ms Dame, who fronts the music collective Electric Junkyard Gamelan, told Reuters that she was a "fabricator" who liked to make things with her hands.
She said: "That stringed instrument...that's wood from an old futon frame I found on the street.
"The hanging base instrument -- that's an old folding table base. A lot of the hardware I got from tag sales and stuff like that."
She added that she doesn't care what the objects looks like, so long as she can hear a beautiful sound in it, she can fashion some sort of instrument.
What this produces is a radical new sound that dumbfounds audience members who come to see the band play.
It's often a fusion of styles from jazz to funk to pop to even hip hop.
Some of the instruments include the Rubarp and Big Barp (electric rubber band harps), the Sitello (an electric cello and sitar combination), the Terraphone (copper pipe horn) and the Clayrimba (a three octave tuned clay pot marimba).
