Major stars enjoy extra sales after X Factor appearance
Established stars such as bass guitar legend Sir Paul McCartney were queuing up to appear on last year's X Factor series, and new figures have revealed this has had the desired effect.
Statistics from the BPI showed that after each guest star performed on the show, online sales of their tracks increased.
This was found to be partly because these acts were releasing new material at the time, although previously available songs were also snapped up by the public.
Jean Littolff, managing director of Nielsen Music Control, said this shows that The X Factor has become a "major marketing vehicle" for established stars.
X Factor judge and Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole used the programme to showcase her debut solo single Fight For This Love, while Sir Paul's appearance coincided with the release of his Good Evening New York City album and DVD.
Also, Queen's electric guitar player and drummer performed a rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody with the X Factor contestants to promote their Absolute Greatest LP.Posted on 15 Jan 2010 15:00 to category : Music News
