MGMT's pop return?
MGMT may return to making "super-satirical pop music".
The US band received mixed reviews for their second album, 'Congratulations', because it dropped the band's established electro-pop sound to focus on more experimental material, but the group said they may return to their roots, at least for live shows.
Multi instrumentalist Andrew VanWyngarden said: "We've actually talked about doing something with our live show so it's more clearly defined.
"Like, maybe doing one set that's even trippier, and further out that what we're doing just now, and then doing another of super-satirical pop music, more along the lines of what we used to do when we first started out. Almost like Karaoke."
Andrew - who is joined in the band by Ben Goldwasser - also acknowledges the band's second album was to an extent an "escapist, indulgent psychedelic trip" because they didn't want to force another record like their biggest hit 'Kids'.
He added: "It's kind of true. We couldn't follow the success of the first record, because if we tried to write another song like 'Kids' it would have sounded incredibly forced and we would have been slammed for doing that instead."Posted on 5 Oct 2010 07:00 to category : Music News
