MC Hammer turns his attention to the internet
The rapper, whose real name is Stanley Burrell, has become something of an entrepreneur in recent times, though he still produces his own music.
At the Web 2.0 Summit in San Francisco, MC Hammer said: "Do we really need another search? Of course not."
Bamboozled audience members looked on in confusion.
He clarified: "You can always make things better. There's always a next version."
MC Hammer went on to say that he thought the internet was more than just keywords, it was about building relationships, perhaps nodding to the inexplicable rise of online social networking.
His search engine, which has been developed over a two-year period, is provisionally called WireDoo, is still in pre-beta.
MC Hammer is most famous for his catchy 1990 super hit U Can't Touch This from his studio album Please Hammer, Don't Hurt 'Em.
It has sold more than ten million copies worldwide.
