Lydon praises Noel after Oasis split
The singer, who rose to fame as Johnny Rotten in the Sex Pistols, said he was sad to hear of the Manchester band's demise.
Guitarist Noel Gallagher, who wrote many of their biggest hits including Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger and Live Forever, was singled out for particular praise.
"Noel is fantastic - one of Britain's finest," Lydon told Female First.
However, he was less positive about singer Liam Gallagher, whom he described as "second-rate Rotten".
Lydon added that while there was no "content or depth" to Oasis' music, their split is still "sad" and "poignant".
The band's break-up was confirmed last month after Noel Gallagher said he was leaving because of personal differences with his brother.
Oasis were widely credited with spearheading a revival of electric guitar-based rock music in the 1990s, which continues to this day with bands such as the Arctic Monkeys, The Killers and Kasabian.Posted on 8 Sep 2009 16:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
