Lou Reed: Metallica and I have produced the "best thing done by anyone"
Loud Reed has whet the appetites of music fans across the world by announcing that the work he has produced with Metallica is not just the best work he has ever done, but "the best thing done by anyone, ever".
Reed said that he and the electric guitar wielding heavy metal titans had recorded a version of Frank Wedekind's Lulu – which Lou Reed had previously written a score to – and that it was "awe inspiring".
Speaking to the New York Magazine about his latest collaboration, the rock star said: "It’s maybe the best thing done by anyone, ever. It could create another planetary system. I’m not joking, and I’m not being egotistical."
The new studio album has yet to be given a title but after Reed's latest comments, fans are eagerly awaiting confirmation that it will be released in November of this year.
His comments come on the back of an announcement made by Metallica last month.
The band wrote on their website: "In what would be lightning speed for a Metallica related project, we recorded ten songs over the last few months and while at this moment we're not exactly sure when you'll hear it, we're beyond excited to share with you that the recording sessions wrapped up last week."
Reed will be releasing a graphic novel adaptation of his 2003 concept album Raven later this month.
