Look to the stars for guitar equipment
John Callaghan, editor of Guitar & Bass Magazine, said there were websites out there that would help wannabe guitar players with advice - and on a budget.
"There are online guides or you can find out from various forums and fan sites what people are using," he said.
"It's not always as high-end as you think, or as big as you think. Some people argue that if you just get a really good VOX AC30, Fender Twin or Marshall head [you'll have all you need]."
Mr Callaghan went on to say that a recent trend was for guitar amp heads "like Orange Tiny Terror".
They've become [popular] – it used to be that if you wanted a cabinet and a head you needed soundproofing or very understanding parents, but now [not so much]," he noted.
"It's the kind of thing you can take down to the studio, plug into the cabinets down there and have the basis for a really good sound."
Mr Callaghan concluded that technology had helped make this possible.
