Lonnie Mack's Gibson Flying V 'has stood the test of time'
Blues-rock guitarist Lonnie Mack has remained faithful to the same Gibson Flying V since purchasing the instrument back in 1958.
His history with the instrument has been outlined in new book Star Guitars: 101 Guitars That Rocked the World by Dave Hunter, reports the Gibson Lifestyle blog.
Mack has had to repair and refinish the Flying V several times over the years, but it has served him well in a career which included performances with the likes of James Brown and Hank Ballard.
Hunter explained Mack was soon making his name in the music industry as a solo artist after purchasing the electric guitar.
"The 1964 single Wham! consolidated his status and featured more of that frenetic, tremulous tone that gave Mack a unique voice in guitardom right from the start," the author said.
Mack went on to play with many famous guitarists down the years, including Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Ry Cooder.
