Liverpool 'has phenomenal musical talent'
Posted on 16th Nov 2009 17:00 to category Instruments News
Liverpool City Council has praised the ability of its electric guitar players, drummers, pianists and other musicians from the area.
Warren Bradley, leader of the authority, said the city today has a "phenomenal pool of talent".
This, he said, is being aided by its array of venues, studios, festivals and studios, all of which are helping new artists in the area to flourish.
Mr Bradley was speaking as Liverpool unveiled its bid to become the Unesco City of Music, which he believes would be a "massive boost the city's international cultural profile".
"Music is in Liverpool's blood," he commented.
Mr Bradley added that the city has had a global influence in many genres over the years, including rock, classical and dance.
Liverpool's bid comes in the wake of its successful year as European Capital of Culture in 2008.
A number of high-profile events were staged to mark the occasion, including a homecoming gig from former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney at Anfield.
