Lil' Wayne: I could relate to Nirvana
International rap star Lil' Wayne has made an announcement that is to shock fans – he was a fan of Nirvana as a child.
Lil' Wayne, 28, who plays the electric guitar much like Kurt Cobain, told MTV that he loved the band's classic Smells Like Teen Spirit.
The controversial rapper, who is rumoured to be working on his ninth studio album, said that "this rock song" was one that he could sit down to watch and listen.
Speaking to MTV, Weezy, as he is commonly known, said: "I was young and I actually listened to the lyrics, I probably felt at that time, I was rebelling and I can associate myself with that.
"Relate to the things he was talking about in the songs. I probably couldn't but I thought I could."
Continuing with the rock theme, Lil' Wayne, who is part of the rap collective Young Money, will feature on Limp Bizkit's new album Gold Cobra.
Nirvana formed in Aberdeen, Washington, in 1987. They found success with Smells Like Teen Spirit, the first song from their subsequent hit of an album Nevermind.
