Les Paul celebrates 94th birthday
Posted on 9 Jun 2009 16:00 to category : Instruments News
Electric guitar legend Les Paul is celebrating his 94th birthday today.
He is widely credited as one of the pioneers of the modern electric guitar, which led to the development of music genres such as rock and roll.
His other accomplishments include innovations in tape recording, as he was one of the first people to multitrack, overdub and use delay effects.
GibsonGuitar Corporation, the manufacturer of the instrument which bears his name, has been among those to wish Mr Paul a happy birthday.
"Any way you look at it, Les Paul is a living legend," it commented.
Meanwhile, the Milwaukee Decider has commended the range of electric guitar skills that he still possesses.
Indeed, the publication said that at his last show, he proved himself to be the best 93-year old guitarist in the world.
It added that without the fruits of Les Paul's labours, the world may never have heard of acclaimed guitarists such as Jimi Hendrix.
