Les Paul Celebrated with Google Doodle
Les Paul, pioneer of the modern electric guitar, is celebrated today with an interactive Doodle on the front page of Google.
The fully interactive electric guitar graphic has been created to celebrate Les Paul's 96th birthday.
In place of Google's logo are 10 strings, each tuned to a different pitch.
The strings and graphic have been carefully placed to spell out the company's name.
There are several ways to operate the online instrument, with a record function available in some territories.
Mouse pointers can be used for strumming chords, or by clicking a button below the design the keyboard can be activated to allow more precise playing of riffs.
Les Paul is credited with helping start the rock n roll revolution designing the first solid body electric guitar.
Building on his first solid body design, The Log (1940), the Gibson guitar company refined the model to produce the instrument that would guarantee Les Paul would go down in the annals of history - the Gibson Les Paul electric guitar (1961).
Les Paul not only made a name as an inventor, but was lauded for his guitar playing, namely jazz and country.
He continued playing live regularly right up until his death in 2009.
Les Paul played a weekly show on a Tuesday night at the Iridium Jazz Club in Chicago, often followed by an early morning radio show.
Google's Doodle is the latest, and most interactive, in a line of impressive graphics celebrating famous events and people.Posted on 9 Jun 2011 14:15 to category : Instruments News
