Lemmy and Slash statues being considered for Stoke-on-Trent
Two of Stoke-on-Trent's most famous musical sons may be honoured with statues in their home city following a petition by campaigners.
Electric guitar legend Slash - who made his name in Guns N' Roses - and Motorhead frontman Lemmy were both born in the Staffordshire city before going on to achieve great things in the world of music.
More than 300 people have added their signatures to the petition and the idea is now going to be considered by local councillors at a meeting next week, reports the Sentinel.
A spokesman for the campaigners said building the statues would be a fitting tribute to both performers, as well as bringing extra tourism to Stoke-on-Trent.
"We firmly believe it could be a landmark that is really quite individual and exclusive to the area and would definitely be a popular attraction for fans of rock music worldwide," he stated.
Both Lemmy and Motorhead have a busy 2011 ahead of them, with the latter band scheduled to tour the US, Canada, Australia and South America in the next few months.
Electric guitar player Slash has a similar tour lined up, with his run of gigs also including performances in Japan, Singapore and Thailand.
