Led Zeppelin top album of 1969 poll
Readers of Rolling Stone magazine have named Led Zeppelin's eponymous debut LP as the album of 1969.
Rolling Stone said it had tipped The Beatles' Abbey Road album to top the chart, but the Fab Four's final record had to settle for third place instead.
Led Zeppelin's self-titled debut, which features classics such as Communication Breakdown and Dazed and Confused, was ranked in first position.
The band's follow-up record, Led Zeppelin II, made it to second place on the strength of tracks such as Whole Lotta Love, which features one of the most famous electric guitar riffs in history.
Meanwhile, The Rolling Stones were ranked at fourth with their Let It Bleed album, while The Who's rock opera soundtrack Tommy was placed at fifth.
Other legendary acts including The Velvet Underground, Bob Dylan and The Kinks were also represented, alongside The Band and Blind Faith.
