La Villa Strangiato 'contains Alex Lifeson's finest guitar work'
Alex Lifeson's guitar work on La Villa Strangiato represents one of his finest achievements as a member of Rush.
This is according to Gibson columnist Sean Patrick Dooley, who took a look at the musician's top ten moments on the guitar as part of the celebration of the release of the Alex Lifeson Les Paul Axcess.
In a rundown that included tracks such as Limelight, Spirit of Radio and Fly By Night, Mr Dooley named La Villa Strangiato as the stand-out song of Lifeson's career.
"From the first few delicate notes of Lifeson's classical guitar, notes that quickly cascade into a frenetic and blistering pace - and that's in just the first 20 seconds - La Villa Strangiato is at times beautiful, other times haunting and sinister," the writer explained.
He added that he considers the song to be both operatic and dazzling, seeing it as Lifeson's most dynamic piece of guitar playing.
Last week, Lifeson said he is feeling excited about the release of his new Les Paul and had worked had with the Gibson team to create it.
He said both the sound and playability of the instrument are highly impressive.
