LCD Soundsystem to retire after New York show
LCD Soundsystem have announced they are to split.
The American dance group - fronted by James Murphy - say they will play their last ever gig at New York's Madison Square Garden on April 2.
In a statement released on their website, the band said: "We are retiring from the game. gettin' out. movin' on. but for just one more night, we will be playing with friends and family for nearly 3 hours -playing stuff we've never played before and going out with a bang. and we'd like you to be there. (sic)"
The 'North American Scum' hitmakers have also requested fans attend the concert, which they have described as a "funeral", dressed in black and white.
They said: "if you would, we'd love it if people came in all white. or black. or black and white. and come early, as the festivities will be opened by our favourites, liquid liquid. yes: liquid liquid.
"if it's a funeral, lets have the best funeral ever!!! (sic)"
LCD Soundsystem have been threatening to quit the music business for some time, hinting last year their current album 'This Is Happening' would be their last.
While promoting the record, James said: "It's over. That's one of the primary reasons I'm out of here. It's not necessarily a bad thing for me because I'm 40 years old and I make albums.
"I'm an oldish dude with a much older music sensibility. I was already anachronistic when I was 30, now I'm just laughable."Posted on 8 Feb 2011 10:00 to category : Band / Celebrity News
