Keith Richards 'never parted from first guitar'
Keith Richards has explained that he started off his music career playing an acoustic guitar.
In an excerpt of his autobiography Life, published in the Wall Street Journal, the Rolling Stones legend said that he got his first guitar at the age of 15 and soon grew very attached to it, playing the instrument at every opportunity.
"I was never parted from my guitar. I took it everywhere and I went to sleep with my arm laid across it," he recalled.
Richards added that he was so engrossed by his musical instrument that he would often appear "oblivious to his surroundings" as he played the guitar in the corner of the room at family gatherings and parties.
Earlier this year, Bruce Springsteen's long-term collaborator Steven Van Zandt said that he considers Richards to be one of the finest guitarists in the world.
He told Guitar World that the Rolling Stones star had helped to reinvent the possibilities of the instrument during the 1960s.
