Katy Perry on course to match Michael Jackson singles record
Katy Perry is set to make history with her new single Last Friday Night (TGIF) if it reaches the coveted number one spot in the Billboard Chart.
If the singer's hit single takes pole position in the singles chart this week she will have matched Michael Jackson's record of five number one singles from one album.
That was achieved by the King of Pop in 1987 with his record-breaking album Bad.
Perry's run of hits have come from her third studio album teenage Dream.
The songs that have made it to number one so far include California Gurls, which features Snoop Dogg, Teenage Dream, Firework and ET, which featured Kanye West.
If Last Friday Night makes it to number one, she may even consider releasing another single from the well-received album.
It is all the more amazing given that the album was released a year ago. It has sold an amazing 1,597,000 copies in the US alone.
The singer, who is married to the comedian turned actor Russell Brand, is currently riding high in the film charts too.
She voices the character Smurfette from the movie The Smurfs.
